The NC State women’s soccer team took down Monmouth by a score of 1-0 in the final game of the team’s season-opening three-game road trip.
The Hawks (0-2-1) were no match for the Wolfpack (2-1) as the home team was outshot 17-5 and NC State was led by senior defender Krissie Schuster who scored the team’s only goal of the night.
Schuster’s goal came in the 74th minute of play as the defender was found just inside the box by fellow defender sophomore Jenna Butler. The goal came just seven minutes after early-season standout junior midfielder Tziarra King was shown a straight red card.
Junior goalkeeper Jessica Berlin also impressed on the night, saving a penalty early in the second half. The goalkeeper has been solid so far in the Pack’s opening three games of the season but the result was her first clean sheet of the season.
The Wolfpack will finally return to Dail Soccer Field for its home opener next week. The team will host Iowa at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 5.
