The NC State gymnastics team came out on top in this Saturday’s quad meet against Towson, Cornell and William & Mary in Towson, Maryland.
The Wolfpack (4-1, 1-0 EAGL) finished with a first-place score of 194.600 followed by William & Mary’s 192.150. Towson (1-4) came in third place at 191.975 and was closely followed by Cornell, 191.725.
The Wolfpack dominated the vaults on Saturday night. Not only did the team reach a new season-high of 48.800, but junior Drew Grantham topped her own season-high score when she took first place with a 9.825. Following Grantham on the podium was senior Caitlyn Fillard who tied her season-high of 9.800. Tying for third place were seniors Paris Phillips and Alexa Phillips with a recorded score of 9.775.
NC State also saw a new season-high on the bars, 49.075, with senior Maggie Tamburro leading the way with a solid score of 9.900 to secure first place. Also on the podium for third place were Fillard and Lauren Kent with a score of 9.825. Fillard and Kent had earned a new season-high along with teammates Grantham, 9.775 and junior Melissa Brooker, 9.750.
On the floor, the Pack saw its third event of the night for a new season-high, 48.950. Alexa Phillips finished in second place and a new personal high of 9.850 for this season. Paris Phillips tied for third place, 9.825.
The Pack scored 47.775 on the beams with only Grantham making it onto the podium for third place, scoring 9.775.
All-around Grantham won gold with a finishing score of 39.175 with teammate Fillard placing fifth with a final score of 38.400.
The Wolfpack continues to improve in all areas of the meet. The Pack had reached new season-highs on three of four events. Grantham and Tamburro earned the Pack three first-place spots throughout the meet, Grantham on the vault and all-around and Tamburro on the bars. To finish the night, the Pack walked away with 10 podium finishes.
The Pack remains on the road for its next EAGL meet this Friday against UNC-Chapel Hill at 7 p.m.
