The NC State gymnastics team will travel to Chapel Hill this Friday to take on rival UNC-Chapel Hill in a dual meet.
The Pack (4-1, 1-0 EAGL) are looking to build off of a dominant performance in its quad-meet victory last Friday. The Tar Heels (4-1, 1-0 EAGL) have also had a strong start to the season, with their only loss coming from the top-ranked Oklahoma team.
Both teams have posted similar average meet scores in the early season. The Pack has an average season score of 194.425, and the Tar Heels have an average of 194.663. This shows in the rankings, where both teams are just outside of the top-25 heading into the weekend.
Junior Drew Grantham has been the most dominant gymnast for the Pack this year. She collected her second consecutive EAGL Gymnast of the Week honor this week, while also taking her first all-around champion crown this past weekend.
Seniors Alexa Phillips and Paris Phillips have posted seven podium finishes out of 12 events thus far. In the meet this past weekend, the Phillips twins finished on the podium in vault and floor.
The Pack posted team-highs in three events at Towson in vault, bars and floor, so going into the UNC meet, the team will be riding high with confidence. Also, look for the Wolfpack to have their best meet thus far this year, with it being a rivalry meet for the two teams.
Sophomore Drew Grantham performs a leaping split on the beam on Saturday, Feb. 17, 2018 in Reynolds Coliseum. Grantham scored a 9.875 at the meet against UNC-Chapel Hill.
