This past weekend, NC State track and field competed at the Texas Tech Classic in Lubbock, Texas. The Wolfpack took on 20 other schools and ended the meet with five podium finishes.
In the women’s shot put, senior Lauren Evans won the event with a throw of 16.14 meters despite three faults. Evans placed third in the women’s weight throw with a best throw of 18.85 meters.
Junior Cravont Charleston won the men’s 60-meter dash in a photo finish with two other runners. Charleston ran a 6.552, second place Kasaun James of Florida State ran a 6.553 and third place Andrew Hudson of Texas Tech ran a 6.554.
Freshman Timara Chapman finished third in the women’s pentathlon 800-meter with a time of 2:28.64, while her teammate, freshman Mikieja Covington, placed seventh running a 2:31.22. Chapman placed sixth overall in the pentathlon.
Covington posted two other fifth-place finishes in the pentathlon, in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.82 seconds and in the shot put with a throw of 10.67m. Covington finished eighth overall in the pentathlon.
In the men’s heptathlon, senior Grant Rivers placed second in the high jump. Rivers placed fourth in the heptathlon’s 60-meter hurdles and shot put but did not finish the heptathlon.
Senior Gabriele Cunningham finished second in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.32 seconds, eight tenths of a second off the winner. Cunningham placed fifth in the women’s 60-meter hurdles.
In the men’s long jump, sophomore Ja’Von Douglas placed third with a 7.37m leap. Freshman Jamar Davis placed fifth in the men’s triple jump with a long of 15.35m.
Track and field will be back in action on Feb. 1 as the Wolfpack travels to Blacksburg, Virginia to compete at the Virginia Tech “Doc Hale” Elite Meet.
