NC State track and field will compete in its fourth event of the season when it visits Blacksburg, Virginia for the Hokie Invitational this weekend.
The Pack’s last two events were both in Clemson, South Carolina. On Dec. 8, NC State finished with four first-place finishes and five on Jan. 11. The Hokies have an extended home stretch, hosting for the second straight weekend.
The women’s 1000m was dominated by the Wolfpack last weekend, placing the top three runners. Redshirt sophomore Anna Vess, redshirt freshman Julia Zachgo and freshman Emma Ferguson all finished within a second of each other.
Senior Gabriele Cunningham earned a first-place finish in the women’s 300m with freshman McKenzie Long finishing behind her in second in January. Redshirt senior Lauren Evans finished first in the women’s weight throw and first in women’s shot put in both meets at Clemson.
Back in December, redshirt freshman Mikieja Covington and senior Janel Pate were the top two jumpers in the women’s long jump.
On the men’s side, there were a number of third-place standings during the last two meets with two bright spots. In the first meet, senior Grant Rivers had the top placement in the men’s pole vault, and last weekend junior Cravont Charleston topped all runners in the men’s 60m finals.
Expect these competitors to do well yet again, but with just a couple more placements, the Pack can capitalize on its start of the season before traveling again to round out January.
