The Wolfpack will be heading to Austin, Texas to compete in the NCAA Track and Field Championships this week.
The Wolfpack will be competing in five events: the 4×100-meter relay, 100-meter run, 5,000-meter, 3,000-meter steeplechase and the triple jump.
On the men’s side of the meet, the 4×100-meter relay squad, which includes redshirt sophomore Junpai Dowdy, junior Cravont Charleston, senior Shannon Patterson and senior Quashawn Patterson, will be the first members of the Wolfpack to participate in the meet. With a strong fifth-place finish at the NCAA preliminaries with a time of 39.17, the Pack is looking for another strong finish in Texas, and are set to start Wednesday, June 5 at 6:32 p.m.
Shortly after the men’s 4×100-meter relay, Charleston will compete in the men’s 100-meter run, having placed ninth at the NCAA East Regional with a time of 10.22, which sits as the fourth-fastest time in program history. The heats are scheduled to start on Wednesday, June 5 at 7:46 p.m.
Next in the series of events, freshman Jamar Davis will represent the Pack as the only competitor in field events and as one of only three freshmen in the championships for his event. Competing in the triple jump, Davis will enter the championships with a tenth-place finish in the prelims, with a jump of 51 feet, 5 inches. The event is set to start at 7:40 p.m. on Friday, June 7.
As the last to take the track for the men’s team, redshirt freshman Ian Shanklin will be competing in the 5,000-meter event after a strong fourth-place finish to qualify with a time of 14:01.32. His event is set to kick off Friday, June 7 at 9:25 p.m.
On the women’s side of the meet, senior Nell Crosby stands as the only woman representing the Wolfpack in the championship meet, qualifying in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with an 11th-place finish of 10:08.54 in the preliminaries in Jacksonville. This marks NC State’s third-fastest time in program history for her event. This event is set to start Thursday, June 6 at 7:32 p.m.
The Wolfpack is looking for a strong finish at the NCAA Championship this week with five events qualifying, the most for the program in three years.
The championship meet will kick off Wednesday, June 5 and conclude Saturday, June 8 at the Mike A. Myers Stadium at the University of Texas.
