NC State sent seven athletes to the NCAA Track and Field Championships in Austin, Texas, and almost half came back with All-America honors. Junior sprinter Cravont Charleston, senior distance runner Nell Crosby and redshirt freshman distance runner Ian Shanklin all made second-team All-American honors with top-15 finishes in their respective events.
On day one, Charleston competed in the 100-meter dash, running a wind-aided 10.13. That time is the second-fastest 100-meter dash in NC State history. Charleston placed 14th in the event and became NC State’s first All-American in the 100-meter dash since Alvis Whitted in 1996. The men’s 4×100-meter relay team qualified for the NCAA Championships but did not advance to the semifinals.
On day two, Crosby broke NC State’s record in the 3,000-meter steeplechase by almost three seconds. Her 9:58.09 time was good for fifth-best in her heat and advanced her to the finals.
On day three, Shanklin ran in the men’s 5,000-meter final and placed 11th with a time of 14:13.57. Freshman Jemar Davis competed in the men’s triple jump final. His longest distance of 50’1.75″ was 23rd-best in the event.
On day four, Crosby competed in the 3,000-meter steeplechase final. She ran a 10:35.47 and finished 12th in the event. Overall, track and field finished the season strong, and the Wolfpack will look to continue that momentum going into next year.
