The NC State women’s basketball team will face off against head coach Wes Moore’s roots, Chattanooga, at Reynolds Coliseum this Thursday at 6:30 p.m.
The Wolfpack (10-0), which boasts a strong and undefeated start to its season, shouldn’t face too much trouble against the Mocs (1-11) who are on a nine-game losing streak.
The Mocs tend to struggle scoring points, losing their latest game by nearly 40 points against Troy. Sophomore forward Eboni Williams, a consistent player on the team, was also the top scorer against Purdue when she only managed eight points.
The Wolfpack has had an easier time scoring than the Mocs. Leading scorers sophomore center Elissa Cunane and senior guard Aislinn Konig have been the top scorers for the Pack a combined total of seven times throughout the season.
The Wolfpack averages 47 rebounds per game while the Mocs are hauling in 33 boards per game, giving the Wolfpack an advantage in second-chance opportunities.
Both teams have a similar size but the Wolfpack has more upperclassmen with experience and has more options in the paint. The Mocs have a slightly larger pool to pick from on the perimeter.
The Wolfpack hasn’t had a long history against the Mocs, only playing them twice. Both games were away in Tennessee and were victories for the Pack. The first match against the Mocs was back in 1977-78 when the Wolfpack defeated the Mocs 80-67. Last year, the Wolfpack was able to face off against the Mocs to secure an even greater victory, 78-58.
Despite not having a long history with the Mocs, the Wolfpack has walked away with two wins and now has the advantage of home court and strong momentum from its previous wins this season.
