Despite the team’s poor performance as a whole, four members of the NC State football team earned All-ACC honors. The ACC released its all-conference honors Tuesday morning, and graduate defensive tackle Larrell Murchison, sophomore kicker Christopher Dunn, redshirt sophomore punter Trenton Gill and redshirt junior tight end Cary Angeline were all honored.
Larrell Murchison, Defensive Tackle, Second-Team Defense
Murchison was one of the Wolfpack’s most consistent players this season. Anchoring a shaky defense but a potent defensive line, the graduate student finished his final season in a Wolfpack jersey with 48 total tackles, 12 tackles for a loss, seven sacks and two fumble recoveries.
The two defensive tackles ranked above Murchison in the voting were Pittsburgh’s Jaylen Twyman and Florida State’s Marvin Wilson.
Christopher Dunn, Kicker, Second-Team Specialists
Dunn finished 69 points behind Wake Forest’s Nick Sciba in the voting for All-ACC kickers. Dunn stayed consistent through the season, missing just three field goals all year, the same amount he missed last year, hitting 21 of his 24 attempts with a long of 46. For the second year in a row, Dunn was also perfect on PATs, hitting all 28 of his attempts. This was a step back from last year’s 51 for 51, but the kicker cannot be blamed for that.
Trenton Gill, Punter, Third-Team Specialists
A lot of people likely expected Gill to be higher in the ranking, as he was a stand out for the Wolfpack’s special teams and one of the bright spots on the team as a whole. Gill took 56 punts this season, with a long of 75. Gill put seven of his punts out of the endzone for touchbacks and another 16 inside the 20. Nearly half of Gill’s punts, 24 of 56, went over 50 yards.
Gill also took the bulk of the Wolfpack’s kickoffs this season, with the redshirt sophomore booting 29 of his 59 kickoffs through the end zone for touchbacks. Gill ranked behind Wake Forest’s Dom Maggio and Syracuse’s Sterling Hofrichter in the voting.
Cary Angeline, Tight End, Honorable Mention
One of the most underused weapons in the Wolfpack offensive arsenal, the 6-foot-7 tight end received 32 voting points after his solid season. Angeline hauled in 25 receptions for 379 yards and five touchdowns this season. Angeline’s 15.3 yards per catch led all receivers who caught at least three passes.
Ranking above Angeline in the voting at tight end were Miami’s Brevin Jordan, Duke’s Noah Gray and Boston College’s Hunter Long.
