The NC State baseball team swept its opponents in a three-game road trip to Minnesota this weekend. The Pack defeated Iowa, Purdue and Minnesota to remain undefeated and improve to 11-0 on the season. Here are some key numbers from these important road victories this weekend.
27 — Runs scored by the Pack in three games this weekend. The Pack scored at least six runs against all three opponents it faced this weekend. This has been a trend for the Pack all season as the Pack has scored at least six runs in 10 of its 11 games this season.
1 — Runs given up by junior starting pitcher Reid Johnston against Iowa on Friday. Johnston allowed only two hits and one run in five innings against Iowa on Friday. After a strong performance on the mound, the Pack’s relief pitchers failed to help him keep runs off the board. The four relievers that came in for the Wolfpack after Johnston allowed a combined five runs in four innings.
15 — Strikeouts by junior starting pitcher Nick Swiney against Purdue on Saturday. He had a truly dominant performance in which he gave up only one hit and zero walks in the eight innings he pitched. Reliever Dalton Feeney came into the game in the 9th to close and allowed zero hits and only one walk to seal the win.
8 — Unanswered runs scored by the Pack after trailing 3-7 in the 4th inning against Minnesota. The Pack’s scoring onslaught was started by junior outfielder Jonny Butler who hit a 2-run RBI triple to decrease Minnesota’s lead to two runs.
4 — Hits by junior infielder Devonte Brown this weekend including two against Purdue. The junior also drew four walks and his batting average now stands at an amazing .415 for the season. Brown came up big for the Pack this weekend just like he has done all season at the plate.
.327 — Combined batting average for the Wolfpack baseball team so far this season. The batting average leaders for the team with at least 20 at-bats are Brown with a .415 batting average, sophomore infielder Tyler McDonough with a .381 batting average, and junior infielder Austin Murr with a .341 batting average.
.86 — ERA of starting pitcher Nick Swiney this season. Swiney is 3-0 in three starts and he has only allowed two runs and eight hits through 21 innings pitched this season. He has been everything the Pack could ask for so far this season from a starting pitcher.
