Voting for Student Government elections has opened and will continue until Tuesday, March 3 at 11:59 p.m. Students may vote through the GetInvolved website. The ballot includes options for student body officers, senators and two referendums.
Four options for student body president and vice president are available. The student body president represents students on various university administrative councils, including the ultimate governing body of NC State, the Board of Trustees.
– Sam Brohaugh, a third-year studying civil engineering, and Erinn Foote, a second-year studying philosophy and political science. Profile can be found here.
– Max Stoltz, a third-year studying parks, recreation and tourism management, and Hannah Stoltz, a second-year studying fashion and textile management. Profile can be found here.
– Melanie Flowers, a third-year studying communication, and McKenzy Heavlin, a second-year studying electrical engineering. Profile can be found here.
– Carlie Higgins, a third-year transfer student in political science and communication, and Powell Braddock, a first-year studying chemical engineering. Profile can be found here.
Two other officer positions are available: Student Senate president and student body treasurer. Both have one candidate running each and are therefore uncontested.
– Coleman Simpson, a first-year graduate student in agricultural leadership. Profile can be found here.
– Garrison Seitz, a second-year student in civil engineering. Profile can be found here.
Students are also posed two other questions in this election. One aims to change the student body constitution to include gender-inclusive language, replacing instances of “he/she/his” or “she/her/hers” all to “they/them/theirs.” A similar referendum failed in fall 2018 elections.
The other question deals with a structural change which would remove references to the Student Conduct Board from Student Government documents and add additional oversight over the whole of Student Government through a Justice Department. A Technician editorial on this referendum can be found here.
