The NC State gymnastics team will host a tri-meet against New Hampshire and UNC-Chapel Hill at Reynolds Coliseum this Saturday at 4 p.m.
The No. 29 Wolfpack will be participating in its first tri-meet this season. Both the No. 42 Tar Heels and the No. 38 Wildcats will be EAGL matches for the Pack.
This will be the Pack’s third meet with the Tar Heels. Last time, the Pack hosted its dual meet with the Tar Heels on Feb. 1, 2020 and outperformed them 196.250-193.375. The Tar Heels have been averaging a 194.125 with a high team score of 194.775.
The Tar Heels will be returning with freshman Elizabeth Culton, who placed first out of the all-arounders with a combined score of 38.750, and senior Khazia Hislop, who placed first on the vault with a 9.900.
The Wolfpack hasn’t competed against the Wildcats since last season, where the Pack did well but was just shy of the Wildcats’ score, 196.000-195.850. This season, the Wildcats average 194.783 with a high of 195.850. During the Wildcats’ latest meet, they placed first in three of the four events and second on the vault.
The Wildcats have senior Emma Winer and freshman Kylie Gorgenyi, both of whom had career-high scores during the last meet. Winer placed first on the floor with an impressive score of 9.925. Teammate Gorgenyi had a strong performance, placing first on vault with a 9.825, and 39.150 as an all-rounder.
The Wolfpack has had a successful season, with an average score of 195.23 with its highest score being 196.250.
Both the Wildcats and the Tar Heels are good competitors to push the Pack further as a team.
Overall, the Wolfpack is in a good position for this weekend. Not only is the Pack consistently performing well at meets, but the team will also have the luxury of being in its own gym.
