The NC State men’s soccer team traveled to Wilmington, North Carolina Tuesday to take on No. 11 UNC-Wilmington. The Pack struggled in the final nonconference matchup of the season as it lost 3-0.
The Wolfpack (8-4-2) entered the game off of a huge upset win Friday night against its rival, No. 1 UNC-Chapel Hill, while the Seahawks (11-2-1) were coming off of a 5-0 win against Belmont.
Sophomore goalkeeper Leon Krapf and the Pack hadn’t allowed a goal in 236 minutes, but that changed as Seahawks forward Emil Elveroth fired a shot 16 yards away to give UNC-W a 1-0 lead.
Just over a minute later Elveroth netted another goal for the Seahawks, receiving a nifty pass, spinning and scoring the goal to give UNCW a 2-0 lead. Freshman forward Ivy Brisma and sophomore midfielder Jose Morales Jr. had scoring chances before the end of the first half, but both were unable to finish.
Eight minutes into the second half the Seahawks struck again with a goal from Phillip Goodrum, assisted by Elveroth to extend their lead to 3-0.
The Pack had eight corners and seven shots throughout the match, but could not cash in on any of its opportunities.
NC State will be back in action at home on Saturday to take on Syracuse in the final home game of the regular season. The Pack will be hungry to finish out the ACC and regular season play strong in front of its home crowd.
