NC State volleyball started its day off with a 3-0 victory against Wright State on Friday in Reynolds Coliseum.
The Wolfpack (4-2) had a very successful match against the Raiders (5-2), cleaning them up in three sets. Not only was the Pack strong offensively, but defensively as well to stay in control of the pace and finish up early.
The Wolfpack started off strong in the first set as it was able to find the holes in the Raiders defense for kills. The atmosphere the Pack provided was energetic as the team broke away from Wright State 9-4.
The Raiders appeared to be scrambling in the first half of the first set as the Pack took firm control of the pace of the set. The only part of the Pack’s game that appeared to suffer was the service errors.
Wright State tried calling a timeout to slow the Wolfpack’s momentum down, but the Pack continued to move ahead of the Raiders, creating a 16-7 advantage.
The Pack found itself running around the court to keep the ball in play as the Raiders closed in, making the score 17-15.
NC State called a timeout to stop the Raiders from gaining any more ground. It worked, as the Pack took three consecutive points without letting the Raiders have a chance to recover, 20-15.
However, the Raiders didn’t rest as they closed the gap 23-20. The Pack quickly earned its last two points to finish the first set 25-20.
The second set started out much differently, with both teams fighting for every single point. Keeping a close score from 3-3 to 10-10. A total of nine ties and three lead changes were recorded throughout the first half of the second set.
The Pack finally went on a run to pull ahead 15-10. After a timeout, it continued its streak by going on a 13-point run, 23-10.
When the Raiders finally halted the Wolfpack, it was too late as the Pack only had two more points to claim for the second set. At match point, the Pack closed with a kill from freshman outside hitter Jade Parchment to win 25-12. Parchment had a total of 13 kills throughout the game.
With a two set advantage, the Pack entered the third set. Wright began the set with three consecutive points but the Pack was undeterred and made quick work to flip the score in its favor 6-3.
The Pack steadily pulled away to a four-point gap only to have it closed by the Raiders, 13-13.
The Wolfpack managed to take the lead in order to take the third and final set 25-22 with a finishing kill from sophomore outside hitter Melissa Evans, who had a total of 18 kills of her 19 points.
The Wolfpack will wrap up its Friday against Utah Valley in Reynolds Coliseum at 7 p.m.
