New paths detected by the National Weather Service show Hurricane Florence hitting the east coast, with North Carolina significantly in its path.
According to National Weather Service Raleigh, the hurricane is expected to make landfall on the southern North Carolina coast late Thursday evening.
While the severity of the storm is not certain, many of the “spaghetti” models, a hurricane path tracking resource, show that Hurricane Florence will hit the east coast and the Carolinas.
Governor Roy Cooper has issued a state of emergency for the state of North Carolina encouraging citizens to make sure they have plans in case of severe weather and have supplies in store for the storm.
“Everyone in North Carolina needs to keep a close eye on Florence and take steps now to get ready for impacts later this week,” Cooper said in a statement. “State emergency management, transportation, health experts and others are making sure North Carolina is prepared for the storm, and I urge the public to review your emergency plans and gather your supplies now.”
Students at UNC-Wilmington were encouraged to evacuate campus starting Monday, Sept. 10. However, NC State has yet to issue a statement about Hurricane Florence and their course of action.
Students can view the emergency plans for NC State in case of severe weather on the Emergency Management and Mission Continuity website.
NC State Athletics has announced that they are closely monitoring the forecast of Hurricane Florence in order to stay informed about potential impacts the weather can have on home games such as the NC State vs. West Virginia University football game scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 15. Any changes to the athletic schedule will be posted on GoPack.
