For only the second time since the start of 2008, the women’s basketball team is riding a three-game winning streak.
However, after winning its three opening games in the Women’s National Invitation Tournament — all at Reynolds Coliseum — N.C. State will have to hope for its first four-game winning streak of 2008 at Michigan State in East Lansing, Mich.
The Wolfpack received a bye in the first round and breezed through the second and third rounds in wins against South Carolina and Florida, respectively.
The quarterfinal matchup against St. John’s wasn’t as easy. After taking a 20-point lead into halftime against the Red Storm, the Pack needed a bucket from junior guard Shayla Fields with 18 seconds left to win the game, 63-61.
Michigan State comes into tonight’s game off of a 45-40 overtime win against rival Michigan and is 22-13 overall this season.
The winner of tonight’s game in East Lansing, Mich. will play either Colorado or Marquette for the WNIT championship, both of whom go into their games at 19-14 overall. The team that is deemed a higher seed earns the right to play on its home court. State (21-12) has a better overall record than both Colorado and Marquette.
