The men’s soccer team (3-5-1) will face the Gardner-Webb Bulldogs this Saturday at the N.C. State soccer stadium. The men, coming off a 5-3 win Wednesday against Florida Atlantic University will face a Gardner-Webb team that is 3-6-0 on the season and 0-4 away from home.
According to coach George Tarantini, the men will look to improve on Wednesday’s progress by getting some new and younger players into the game to expose them to the game-time atmosphere. And with nearly half of the team’s 29 players as underclassmen, that should not be a hard goal to accomplish.
“We want to put more players into the game against Gardner-Webb. That is how we learn and gain experience,” Tarantini said after the game Wednesday. “We try and mix people in and out. Sometimes it works well and sometimes it doesn’t. We have to be patient.”
State is one of two ACC opponents Gardner-Webb will face this season with a match scheduled against Clemson in early November. The Bulldogs have failed to win a match against an ACC opponent in their last three seasons. The last two times these teams have met, State shut out Gardner-Webb 4-0 and 3-0.
“We cannot get complacent when we get tired,” junior forward Ronnie Bouemboue said Wednesday after the game.
Bouemboue will go into Saturday’s game on a hot streak, scoring goals in his last 5 games.
“As long as we play a tough 90 minutes we can win games,” he said.
