The women’s basketball team split two games on the West coast over the weekend, losing 68-66 in overtime at Arizona on Friday night and winning 64-55 at UC Santa Barbara on Sunday.
Sophomore guard Shayla Fields led N.C. State with 17 points in Friday’s loss, and senior guards Keisha Brown and Marquetta Dickens added 15 and 14, respectively, against the Wildcats. Ashley Whisonant led Arizona with 19 points.
The Wolfpack continued its road trip in Santa Barbara with a Sunday game against the Gauchos. State trailed 30-23 at the break, but outscored UC Santa Barbara 41-25 in the second half.
Junior forward Khadijah Whittington scored 13 of her 15 points in the second half. Three of her teammates — Dickens, Fields and freshman Nikitta Gartrell — each scored 10 points in the victory.
Jenna Green led the Gauchos with 21 points in the defeat.
