The Homecoming Committee will host the Kickoff Sunday from 4 – 7 p.m. on Harris Field.
“The event is the official kickoff of Homecoming,” Adam Compton, student body treasurer, said. “It’s to get everyone hyped up for a week full of activities.”
The Fine Swine Society is hosting a barbecue cook-off — student groups will cook 80 pounds of meat, which will be given away after it is judged.
Steve Troxler, agriculture commissioner of North Carolina, will be on the panel of judges, according to Compton.
In addition to the barbecue cook-off, students can participate in a hushpuppy-eating contest.
The Reality Show Band will also be playing live music at the event.
“We’re really excited to have a live band,” Paul Hicks, Kickoff chair, said. “We’re bringing a lot of elements to Kickoff that haven’t been brought together before.”
Compton added attendees will get free T-shirts.
“Students need to come out. It’s going to be a lot of fun. It’s going to be the biggest Kickoff ever – this is the first time we’ve ever had a band,” Compton said.
