On Western Boulevard, home to many dining options, the owner of the newly renovated Gourmet Factory said the restaurant caters to students both in price and late-night hours.
The Gourmet Factory opened its doors on Jan. 15.
According to the restaurant’s Web site, it specializes in subs and pizzas, among others. The Gourmet Factory also offers delivery options, and is open until 1 a.m. Sunday through Thursday and 3 a.m. on Friday and Saturday.
“One big plus is that they deliver so late,” Jake Epps, a junior in English, said. “No longer do I have to pay someone to take me to Cook Out at three in the [morning]. I can just make a phone call.”
The owner of The Gourmet Factory, Zeki Keles, said late hours are one of its selling points.
“The price is low and we deliver because of the students,” Keles said. “The prices are for students to afford to eat here.”
Epps said he agreed — the prices are reasonable.
“I strongly recommend [the restaurant] to others.”
Zeles said he has owned the building since June 2006 and renovated it prior to its opening.
“We redid the building inside and out. The utilities were started from scratch and the kitchen is brand new,” Zeles said. “A lot had to be done since the building was originally built in 1969.”
But Zeles said many people have a hard time recognizing the building, especially because of the name.
“The name itself doesn’t say it is Italian and people have no idea what the restaurant is about,” he said. “But, we are relying mainly on word of mouth to get customers in.”
Epps said he was prompted to try eating there when he found a menu in his apartment.
“I am a connoisseur of Philly cheesesteaks, so I gave it a shot, and instantly I was addicted.”
Epps said he approves the food.
“The food is amazing,” he said. “It’s like sex for your taste buds.”
