What happened? The Wolfpack lost its last home match of the season 3-0 to Virginia Tech on Senior Night on Friday. State hung close during the second game, but couldn’t pull off the win, falling 30-26.
Who’s hot?The seniors stepped up on Senior Night, and Ashley Wallace led both teams with 11 kills. Sophomore outside hitter Chrissy Zirpolo and freshman opposite side Lauren Zaniboni each added eight.
Who’s not?The home loss Friday left the Pack winless at home this season and increased its ACC losing streak to 52 matches. Zaniboni said the players have to pump themselves up and come out strong the rest of the way.”We have been working on a lot of technical things, so I think we need to get mentally ready. We have to come out and play how we know how to play,” she said. “We practice better. We know we are better, but for some reason in games we don’t come out like that.”
What’s next? The four remaining matches will all be played on the road. The team will travel to Winston-Salem on Friday to face a struggling Wake Forest squad (7-20). Senior Andrea Bentley said to expect the team to play as hard as they can.”We have nothing to lose,” Bentley said. “We are going to go in there and give it everything we have.”After the Wake match, the team visits Duke for a 7 p.m. contest on Saturday.
