Temperatures may have cooled down, but that doesn’t mean you have to retire those summer dresses just yet.
Woolly knit tights are all the rag — not to mention the perfect accessory to keep warm in the winter weather. Prominent designers such as Carl Lagerfeld, Yves Saint Laurent, Ana Sui and Dolce and Gabbana showcased the trend in various colors and textures on the runway. “Opaque is more popular at the moment than sheer, also the designed ones — lacework or fishnet — are popular. Many designers are creating their own products so now you’re able to buy designer tights.” Cynthia L. Istook, associate professor of textile and apparel technology and management.
Layer your favorite summer dress with a turtleneck and some tights or update a simple shift dress with a brightly colored or patterned pair. Break the monotony of pants and jeans this holiday season, but still stay cozy in a thickly knit pair.
“They’re really comfortable and you can wear them with anything,” Neel Parker, a sophomore in psychology, said.
With everything from ribbed to sparkly, the possibilities are as endless as the stores that sell them. Tights are a practical and economical way to spice up a mundane winter wardrobe and you can find them anywhere from Target to Nordstrom.
“Working at Nordstrom, I’ve seen them worn many different ways. Tights are a fun thing to put with an outfit,” Jacqueline Bailey, a junior in political science.
A versatile trend, tights can be worn with ballet flats, pumps or even boots. Tights give a much more polished look to dresses and skirts than bare legs, so you can be fashionable and warm at the same time. And as any vogue girl will be able to tell you, tights are the “it” accessory this season.
“I haven’t worn them since I was little,” Mallory Lambeth, a junior in biochemisty and polymer and color chemistry, said. “But I’m not opposed to them if they’re worn with the right outfit and look cute.”
