What Happened? The men’s soccer team picked up its first ACC win this past Sunday against Clemson. The 2-1 victory came in overtime, when senior midfielder Ernesto Di Laudo found the net within two minutes of the extra period. N.C. State (5-5-3) pulled out the victory after being shutout by Wake Forest in the previous game.
Coach George Tarantini said the team is looking to finish strong in the league.
“The team is very confident in the sense that we’re getting better, they work great and the intensity is increasing,” he said.
Who’s Hot?Tarantini specifically commended the leadership contributions of seniors El Hadj Cisse and Hugh Cronin. Cisse, a forward, currently has three goals on the season. Cronin, a midfielder, has started all 13 games for the Wolfpack. Additionally, several freshman are seeing increased playing time and are doing “very well” according to Tarantini.
Who’s Not?State (1-3-1- ACC) has not been playing up to its potential, prior to Sunday’s contest against the Tigers, according to Cisse.
“We need more,” he said. “We gave a lot of ACC games away.”
The Pack has shaken up its lineup in an effort to stifle opposing offenses, but Cronin said the team must be more organized on the field.
“We just implemented a new system,” he said. “We’re playing three in the back now, but there’s still a few things we need to work out.”
What’s Next?State will play Maryland Friday to face the Terrapins at 8 p.m.
“It is a must-win for us in Maryland,” Tarantini said.
