What happened?
The volleyball team has continued to struggle, losing for the ninth consecutive time, but on Sunday it was to Georgia Tech 3-1. With a 3-10 overall record and a 0-3 ACC record, N.C. State finds itself in last place in the ACC standings.
Freshman setter Alex Smith left the Clemson match due to an ankle injury but returned to play most of Sunday’s match. Sophomore setter Allison Davis stepped in in Smith’s absence, contributing 25 assists over the weekend. Smith had 34 assists in Sunday’s loss to the Yellow Jackets and will be ready to go for the road trip this weekend, according to coach Charita Stubbs.
“She’s a tough nut, so we’re just trying to play it by ear,” Stubbs said. “She’ll definitely play.”
Who’s hot?
Sophomore outside hitter Chrissy Zirpolo collected her first career double double on Sunday against Georgia Tech with 17 kills and 16 digs. Stubbs said Zirpolo’s success resulted in her getting more balls throughout the match.
“One of the things you talk about with the setters is to find the player that’s hot and try to continue getting them the ball,” Stubbs said. “We like to try to attack the block, which is why Chrissy was so successful.”
Who’s not?
The servers. The Wolfpack failed to record a service ace in a match for the second time in a row. The team also had 11 service errors over the weekend.
