The University’s new hate crimes policy received full Board of Trustees approval Friday during the BOT’s final meeting of the academic year.
Outgoing Student Body President Jay Dawkins, who was a part of Chancellor James Oblinger’s Campus Culture Committee Task Force, said the approval of the policy signaled the task force accomplishing its basic goal.
“One of the charges was to develop a policy,” Dawkins said. “And with the policy being passed, have a clear cut definition of what a hate crime is.”
Dawkins said if a crime is committed involving gender or race, it’s considered an aggravating circumstance
Dawkins said the BOT also discussed the government stimulus packages and different economic help packages the University could apply for.
