Past headliners at the Pack Howl concert have included such music acts as Chris Daughtry and Ludacris, but with the recession and money being tight the possibility of a big-name headliner was in question.
The decision was announced by Adam Compton, Homecoming committee chair, last night on WKNC 88.1 FM during the 7 p.m. “Eye on the Triangle” show.
After receiving $4000 in extra funds from Student Government, the Pack Howl committee approved the College Humor Live tour to headline the event.
Compton said the limit for a headliner was $15,000, therefore the comedy tour was the best fit.
“Other colleges are charging admission to host the tour, but we worked our hardest to keep it free,” he said.
The College Humor Live tour includes comedians Dan Levy, Aziz Ansari, John Mulaney, Nick Kroll and TJ Miller, and is hosted by College Humor hosts Streeter and Jeff. According to the tour’s website, it has regular shows in L.A. and New York when not visiting colleges across the country.
The event is free with a valid student I.D., and will be held on Lee Field. Gates plan to open at 7 p.m. and the event will kick-off with a pep rally to support the football team verses the Homecoming opponent, Maryland.
Following the pep rally, a small band will open for the tour, but the band has not been finalized.
Alan Foushee, Pack Howl Chair, said the band will most likely be Roman Candle, but a contract has not yet been signed.
“We’re still determining who the opening band will be. Right now it looks like Roman Candle, but that will have to be finalized in the coming week,” he said.
The opening band will play for 45 minutes, followed by a small intermission before the tour comes out.
The committee has a budget of $70,000 to cover the concert and all other activities associated with homecoming. The money is a combination of funds raised from various campus organizations including Dining, Wolfpack Club and an allowance from Student Government.
The Pack Howl committee is a sub committee of the Homecoming committee. The Pack Howl committee started with $6000 before receiving an additional $4000 from Student Government’s budget.
The Pack Howl advisor and agent worked to chose the headliner for this year’s show.
