There was plenty of action in the NFL in the third week of the season, and NC State alums made major contributions. Four former Wolfpack quarterbacks started for the second week in a row, and a couple of individual defensive performances highlighted the Pack’s week three.
Jacoby Brissett, Quarterback, Indianapolis Colts
Brissett started once again in place of the injured Andrew Luck as he led the Colts to a 31-28 victory over the Browns. Brissett threw for 259 yards and had three total touchdowns in the game.
Philip Rivers, Quarterback, Los Angeles Chargers
The Chargers continued to be dismal on offense, which included Rivers’ performance in a 24-10 loss to the Chiefs. The veteran quarterback completed only 50 percent of his passes and threw for 237 yards, no touchdowns and three interceptions in the game.
Mike Glennon, Quarterback, Chicago Bears
Glennon struggled against a stingy Steelers defense with only 101 yards, a touchdown, an interception and a fumble. However, with a strong running and defensive performance, the Bears beat the Steelers 23-17 in overtime.
Russell Wilson, Quarterback, Seattle Seahawks
Despite phenomenal play by Wilson, which included 373 yards passing and four touchdowns, the Seahawks fell short in a 33-27 loss to the Titans.
Josh Jones, Safety, Green Bay Packers
In his first year in the NFL, Jones is already making a splash for Green Bay. He led the team with 12 tackles and also recorded two sacks in a 27-24 overtime victory over the Bengals.
David Amerson, Cornerback, Oakland Raiders
Amerson put up good defensive coverage for Oakland in their 27-10 loss to Washington. Amerson totaled six tackles and three passes defended.
Stephen Hauschka, Kicker, Buffalo Bills
After six years with the Seattle Seahawks, Hauschka put up a perfect game for the Bills with four field goals, two extra points and no missed attempts. Including a 55-yard field goal, Hauschka scored 14 points in the 26-16 win over the Broncos.
Willie Young, Linebacker, Chicago Bears
In his eighth year in the NFL, Young recorded two tackles and a sack on Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger in Chicago’s overtime victory over Pittsburgh.
