As the fall semester heats up, so do intramural sports at NC State. Intramural sports are a great way to get involved, meet new people and stay healthy. IM’s can be one of the best experiences of a college career, and a great way to connect with fellow students. Because NC State is so large and diverse, there is a tremendous variety of sports offered to the student body.
All skill levels and ages are welcome, and there is no extra fee to register and play. Every student must have their Wolfpack One Card with them when they compete. Students can sign up individually, or create their own team and enter into a league as a unit.
Team sports are off to a hot start in August, with a number of popular sports opening their registration. The beloved flag football league begins Sept. 5, along with the 7-on-7 outdoor soccer league. Looking down the road a little, indoor soccer, indoor volleyball and 3-on-3 basketball all begin Oct. 9.
There are a number of special events that are available in August and September. If fantasy is your thing, a Fantasy Football League will host live drafts from Aug. 29-31. There are also special tournaments for less traditional games. There is an indoor cricket tournament Sept. 6-8, and a team handball tournament Sept 20-22.
Numerous sports are relatively new to the campus, but are growing in popularity. The bubble soccer league begins Nov. 3, and the pool battleship league begins Nov. 15. Trying new, less-traditional sports is a quick way for students to pick up a new hobby with people of similar interests.
If you want to compete in large tournaments, then the intramural tennis and table tennis leagues are a great outlet. The singles tennis tournament begins on Aug. 30, and the singles table tennis tournament begins Sept. 12. The doubles tennis tournament begins Aug. 31, and the doubles tournament for table tennis begins on Sept. 13.
Most outdoor and team sports, like football and soccer, are held at Miller Fields, which is located directly behind Carmichael Gymnasium and open to the student body. Special events are held in different locations, and students will be notified where their events are held upon registration.
Whatever a student’s interests, IM sports at NC State has something for everyone.
