Coming off a win against Wake Forest on the road Thursday evening, the undefeated NC State women’s basketball team returns home to take on the UNC-Chapel Hill Tar Heels on Sunday in Reynolds Coliseum.
The Wolfpack (21-0, 8-0 ACC) took down the Demon Deacons (10-11, 1-7 ACC) 59-50, with graduate guard Kiara Leslie scoring 23 of those 59 points. Leslie was a huge contributor to the Pack’s win, going 8 for 16 from the field and 6 for 8 behind the free-throw line.
Junior guard Aislinn Konig also helped the Wolfpack, totaling 10 points and going 2 for 4 from behind the arc.
Looking to keep the winning streak going and to improve its record to 22-0, the Wolfpack will take on the Tar Heels (13-9, 4-4 ACC) who just recently beat previously ranked No. 1 Notre Dame 78-73.
The Tar Heels will look to Paris Kea, who contributed 29 points to their 91-90 win over Georgia Tech, and put 30 points on the board against Notre Dame. Kea was named ESPNW Player of the Week and was selected as the Ann Meyers Drysdale Player of the Week this past week.
The Pack will also have to keep an eye on leading scorer Janelle Bailey who has totaled 365 points and a field-goal percentage of .484 so far this season. Bailey went 7 for 12 from the field and got six rebounds for the Tar Heels in their game against Georgia Tech.
The Wolfpack will rely on leading scorer Leslie to continue to put points on the board, and will look to freshman center Elissa Cunane, who was recently named both ACC Rookie of the Week and USBWA Freshman of the Week.
The Wolfpack will tip off against the Tar Heels Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. in Reynolds Coliseum.
